AID BANK ANNOUNCES BIENNIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN ENGINEERING

The Dominica Agricultural Industrial and Development Bank [AID Bank] on Tuesday November 17 2009, announced the granting of a full scholarship every two years in Structural Engineering to be undertaken at the University of Technology [UTECH] in Jamaica.
The scholarship, which is opened to citizens of the Commonwealth of Dominica, will be for a duration of three years and will provide EC$ 60,000 per annum to cover tuition fees, books, other course materials, living and travelling expenses.
In announcing the scholarship, at a Press Conference hosted by the Bank at the Fort Young Hotel in Roseau on November 17, 2009, the AID Bank’s Chairman, Mr. Ambrose Sylvester stated that the Board of Directors had recognised a deficiency in the number of trained engineers in Dominica and believed that in keeping with its Corporate Social responsibility, awarding a scholarship every two years, the Bank would be making a vital contribution in this area which is considered necessary for national development.
He stated additionally, that the Bank will be very transparent in the process of selection and the principal criteria by which applicants would be assessed will be published in the media and distributed throughout the secondary and tertiary institutions in Dominica.
Applications for the scholarship for the academic year beginning in 2010 will be invited shortly.
Decisions on applications will be made by a Selection Panel comprised of representatives of: the Ministry of Education, The Establishments Division of the Ministry of Finance, a relevant private sector organisation in Dominica, of the Engineers and of the AID Bank.
