10th Annual College Recruitment Fair rated a Success

From all reports, the 10th Annual College and Recruitment Fair was a success. On 17th November, 2015, the Library and Information Services in collaboration with the Dominica Agricultural Industrial and Development Bank /DAIDB

and other partners such as the Dominica State College, the University of the West Indies – Open Campus (Dominica),National Co-operative Credit Union Ltd., the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Local Agency Office and Financial Information Month (FIM) Partners and Lead Institute collaborated to host the 10th Annual International College Recruitment Fair at the  Dominica State College Stock Farm Campus.

Remarks during the Opening Ceremony were delivered by the Chief Librarian (Ag.) Mrs Vernanda Raymond, President of the Dominica State College(DSC), Dr. Donald Peters, Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development(Ag.), Ms. Marcella Powell and General Manager of the AID Bank, Mr. Julius J. Corbett.

Mr. Corbett stressed the importance of education and its ability to create sustainable economic growth and reduce poverty and inequality. He also commended the fair organizers for making the event possible.

An exposition of regional and international educational institutions and local financial institutions formed part of the day’s event, which was attended by a large number of the student population of the Dominica State College, the upper forms of secondary schools and members of the general public.

The event, which was ideally located on the grounds of the DSC, offered all who attended, the opportunity to be exposed to the offerings and loan products of diverse educational and financial institutions. 

The afternoon’s debate was on the topic “The Events of Tropical Storm Erika can be seen as an opportunity for sustainable economic development”. The debaters were students of the DSC who presented lucid, thought-provoking and entertaining arguments based on the student’s own research and analysis of the subject. The esteemed panel of judges, comprised Public Health Specialist, Dave Laudat, attorney-at-Law, Carlita Benjamin, and consultant psychiatrist, Dr. Griffin Benjamin.

The opposing team of Devon Brewster and Crege Laronde won the debate with 296 points while the proposing team of Kerymm Registe and Khanisha James received 262 points. Cash prizes to the winners and runner ups of this debate will be presented compliments the AID Bank.
